How the Other Half Loves is a comedy of ingenuity and verve, written by the famed British playwright Alan Ayckbourn, who is a master at portraying marital muddles. The plot centers around two couples whose lives are intertwined by the infidelity of the wife of one with the husband of another. Things get stickier with the presence of an innocent and unwitting third couple who are foils for the adulterers. Both living rooms are shown in the single set, and both share a common dining room – which takes on a character of its own as it serves two dinners simultaneously on two different nights. The dialogue is rapid, witty and intelligent

County Players History

Twenty years ago: In November 1978, County Players produced Fay and Michael Kanin’s famous play Rashomon. That cast included two area residents still very active in CP today. Bill Peckham and Rachel Cassidy graced the stage then and do again these days. Bill recently directed Rashomon in Rhinebeck and Rachel is directing the current production at CP

Ten years ago: In December 1988, the play in production at CP was Agatha Christie’s Go Back for Murder. At that time, we only gave four performances of each show (except musicals). We decided to go to six performances of each show when the demand for tickets exceeded the capacity of our theater.

From the President

The year is off and running. Thanks to Joe Gayton and cast for their fine work on Twilight of the Golds. It was a fine production in is characteristic of the quality of theatre our audiences have come to expect – and we deliver! The November production of How the Other Half Loves will, again, present to our audience a comedy not often produced locally. This production is directed by Rachel Cassidy. It’s a great show and you will be rewarded with a laugh-filled evening.

Work continues in the theater. The walls are nearly completed as numerous coats of paint have been applied, the wainscoting has been painted a dark color, and we are readily the building for the winter. If you have some spare time and would like to assist in any of the many maintenance tasks and special projects, give Peter Edman (297-7521) or Doug Woolley (485-3002) a call. They would be glad to hear from you.

Our season membership drive is over and we can boast 950 season subscribers. This is a great foundation of support and we thank you for your continued interest in County Players. Come on down to the Theater and have some fun!

Theater Update

You may notice some improvements in the look of our theater since your last visit. We have replaced the brown cloth wall covering and wainscoting with painted sheet rock, acoustic panels and new wainscoting in the auditorium. The result is a more refined look and improved acoustics. We strive to keep improving our theater. Future projects under consideration include new seating, additional electrical capacity for theater lighting, and painting on the exterior brick. If you have a suggestion as to how we might make the Falls Theater a better place for you, our customers, please let us know. We appreciate all constructive criticism.
