County Players Presents
She Loves Me

County Players, Inc. presents the charming musical, She Loves Me, as their fall production. The play, written by Joe Masteroff, Jerry Bock, and Sheldon Harnick, will be presented November 30, December 1, 7, 8, 14, 15, 2001 at 8:00 PM at the County Players Falls Theater, 2681 West Main Street in Wappingers Falls. Tickets are $15 ($12 for seniors and children under 12).

Ordinarily County Players presents one lavish musical per season. However, when a number of suggestions from our membership suggested the Broadway hit, She Loves Me, as a candidate show, we juggled our calendar in order to present this delightful theatrical nugget which is based on the film The Shop Around the Corner starring Jimmy Stewart.

The scene is a perfume and cosmetics shop in Budapest, Hungary, in the 1930s. The two principals, employees of the same firm, have a mutual dislike for one another. She thinks he is too arrogant; he thinks she is too flighty. The thing that they do have in common is loneliness. Both resort to opportunities offered by a lonely hearts club. Naturally, they wind up as an anonymous match, attracted by the not altogether honest backgrounds that they have sketched. On discovery there is at first fright, followed by curiosity and ultimately genuine attraction. Meanwhile another couple which works in the same shop have a rather rocky situation, thanks mostly to the conniving of the predatory male. Will the two couples find true love? Would a bit of Christmas spirit help matters?

A first rate cast makes for a charming event of music and dance. Amy Slader plays the winsome Amalia, her unknown wooer is Georg, portrayed by Michael Britt. The role of the flirtatious Miss Ritter is handled by Trash Rokitowski, while her smarmy boyfriend, Kodaly, is played by Chris Whipple. In strong supporting roles are Paul Coleman, Sterling Swann, John Kapusta, and Richard T. Pierce. Rounding out the cast are Kathleen Borgueta, Jennifer McClay, Kevin Barnes, Susan Sciacca, Santo LoGiudice, Catherine Giametta, Harry S

County Players History

Ten years ago: In November 1991, County Players presented The Foreigner directed by Jill Zaitchick. That show featured a younger Michael Britt in the unlikely role of “Froggy”. This year, Michael has the male lead in She Loves Me.

Twenty years ago: In November 1981, County Players presented Arthur Miller’s classic Death of a Salesman directed by John T. Sloper. That show featured a number of familiar County Players regulars including a young actor named Dan Ashley in the role of “Stanley”. This year, Dan is playing the role of Keller in She Loves Me.

CP Supports Sept. 11 Relief

At the October board meeting, the Board of Governors of County Players unanimously agreed to make a contribution to the September 11th Relief fund of the American Red Cross. Everyone has been touched by this tragedy in some way. We felt that it was appropriate for us to designate some company funds to come to the aide of our neighbors and friends here in the Hudson Valley, in New York City, and in all of America.

From the President

County Players’ Board of Governors is always looking for ways to improve our theater. Some of the recent major projects that you may have noticed around the theater include: the new seats, new carpeting, and the new box office.

Currently, The board is developing a new plan for major capital projects for the next few years. We are trying to decide how to best invest our money and time.

Some projects under consideration include: a wheelchair ramp, listening system for hearing impaired patrons, stage lighting and sound improvements, a new storage building, and renovations to the concession area.

The board members will be working over the coming months to prioritize and plan these projects. For some of the projects, we may hire professional contractors to do the work, others will be done with volunteer labor.

We will keep you up-to-date with our progress on these projects, and let you know when we need your help.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me at: president@countyplayers.org.
