THEATRE WORKSHOPS 2025
Workshop # 1 – February 8, 2025 (10 – 4) – Directing & Acting in Readers Theatre
Workshop # 2 – March 22, 2025 (10 – 4) – Stage Management Fundamentals
Stage managers are rarely seen by the audience, but they work with a show from beginning to end. Their responsibilities range from safeguarding the actors and crew members, to interpreting and implementing the director’s and designers’ vision, to being the central communications hub of an entire production, all while managing the various personalities involved at every level.
Every stage manager approaches their job differently, and the best way to learn the ways that work is to ask stage managers who have been there! Join us for a morning of panel discussion with stage managers from various organizations followed by an afternoon of practical exercises and participatory discussion. From initial contact to the final curtain call and strike, you will learn about the tools and conventions from those who have done it. Whether you are considering stage managing or just want a better understanding of how this role fits into a production, this is a great opportunity to step backstage and learn more about how a show comes together!
Cost – $25 per person each workshop
Class size is limited to 15

About the Show:
Ramin Karimloo, Jinkx Monsoon, and David Hyde Pierce lead the crew in Pirates! The Penzance Musical, this must-see Roundabout reimagining of The Pirates of Penzance. Scott Ellis (Doubt; Kiss Me, Kate) directs and Warren Carlyle (Harmony; Kiss Me, Kate) choreographs with a hilarious new adaptation by Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), musical direction by Joseph Joubert (Caroline, or Change), and orchestrations by Joubert and Daryl Waters (Memphis).
Gilbert & Sullivan’s pirate ship docks in New Orleans in this jazzy-bluesy vision of the crowd-pleasing classic, in an outrageously clever romp sizzling with Caribbean rhythms and French Quarter flair. With the tongue-twisting Major General, the rabble-rousing Pirate King, newly-imagined young lovers, daring daughters, footloose pirates and fleet-footed police, there’s a shipload of musical comedy delights on board to dazzle first-timers and G&S aficionados alike.
