News from County Players

All auditions are held at the County Players Falls Theatre unless otherwise specified in the audition notice. We are right next to the Falls under the marquee. Local parking is primarily on-street, but there is also a municipal lot behind some of the restaurants up the hill. See our Directions & Parking page for more information.

For our main stage productions, auditions are held on a Sunday and Monday at 7 PM. Depending on turnout, you may spend a couple of hours or more with us. If you join us at Sunday’s audition and wish to also attend Monday’s audition, you are welcome, but additional reading is at the director’s discretion.

Our CP2 productions audition on a Sunday afternoon, with one show auditioning at 1 PM and the second show at 3 PM. You are welcome to stay and audition for both shows.

We will happily take a pre-filled audition form when you arrive or provide you with a blank form to fill in when you get there! We provide our audition forms online in advance of the audition as a convenience for anyone who wants to print and fill it out in their own time.

While every director runs their auditions a little bit differently, unless the audition posting specifically states that actors are expected to bring a monologue or a prepared piece, no, you are not expected to have a monologue. We usually audition primarily with cold readings from the script.

For musical auditions, you will be expected to bring a prepared song. Length and other specifics can be found in the specific audition notice. Typically, we ask for 16-32 bars from a song from or in the style of the show for which you are auditioning. You are also asked to provide the sheet music for the accompanist.

No, you don’t! Sometimes, we provide sides in the audition posting so you have a chance to look them over in advance. If you would like to print your own copy to make notes on or increase the font size, feel free! We’re happy to have you read from your copy, but we will also provide copies at the audition for everyone to use.

Auditions are the first community you encounter in a community theater. Our auditions are held in our house and on our stage, so you will be reading/singing/etc. in front of the other auditioners. We encourage auditioners to support each other, however, in the case of large turnouts, we sometimes ask our auditioners not to applaud.

If you are hoping to be seen for a particular character, please make sure to note that on your audition form! The director will be using your preferred roles to guide the audition. We want to give everyone a chance to show us what they are able to bring to a show. If you feel you have something to offer that hasn’t been seen and the audition is ending, ask the director or stage manager and we will do our best to make sure you get the opportunity.

For both our main stage and CP2 productions, anticipate spending about 2 hours at the audition. As we don’t usually have callbacks, our directors use this time to hear what they need from all attendees and also get any chemistry information they need.

While this varies from show to show, generally casting occurs within a week of the audition. We make an effort to contact every auditioner to let them know the outcome. If you haven’t heard back after more than a week, you can reach out at info@countyplayers.org.
