County Players Proudly Presents
The Sunshine Boys
County Players, Inc. presents the Neil Simon Broadway hit The Sunshine Boys, September 5, 6,12,13,19, and 20, at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $12.00 for adults and $10.00 for senior citizens and children under 12.
The plot focuses on an ex-vaudeville team, Al Lewis, played by Eli Toplansky and Willie Clark, played by Art Weinberg who, in spite of performing together for 43 years, have a natural aversion for one another. It’s been 11 years since the “Lewis and Clark” comedy team has appeared on stage together, when Willie’s nephew and agent, Ben, played by James DeSalvo, tells his uncle that CBS-TV is preparing a “History of Comedy” special. Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without the classic comedy duo. There’s never a dull moment in this classic from Simon.
The cast is well rounded out by Jackie Fiesinger as “the sketch nurse”, Hank Conklin as “the patient”, and Yolanda Rubin as “the Registered Nurse”. Andy Phillips provides excellent backup understudying the leads.
The show is being directed by Lou Miressi who also directed County Players’ Brighton Beach Memoirs in 1996. Lou has also appeared on-stage in several productions, most recently A Few Good Men and Inherit the Wind. Lou is glad to have this opportunity and says “I want people to be entertained, to laugh, and to go home with an understanding of what makes us human beings”. He adds that Neil Simon teaches us about what’s funny while illustrating the pain of relationships….

40th Anniversary Ruby Season
Forty years represents a lifetime for some, a passing season for others. For two members of our current production The Sunshine Boys, it represents life coming full circle. Art Weinberg and Eli Toplansky were both involved in County Players’ first season. We can’t think of a more fitting way to inaugurate our 40th anniversary season than to have these two gentlemen starring in our season opener.
In preparation for our Anniversary events, we’re developing an address list of people who have worked with and/or supported County Players in any capacity over the last 40 years. If you have a friend or relative who has left the area or someone who may not be on our current mailing list who would like to know of the 40th Anniversary Celebrations, please send their address to us c/o Rachel Cassidy, 76 Martin Drive, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 or E-Mail: RAKKCASS @AOL.com. THANKS!

From the President
It’s always exciting to open another season. But it’s even more exciting to open this season because it’s our 40th RUBY ANNIVERSARY! Yes – we are 40 years old! What a remarkable accomplishment – and one of which to be very proud! There will be many things happening this season, and The Spotlight will definitely keep you informed about the dates and times of all of our special events as well as the many special surprises which will be a part of these events.
Another congratulations for County Players! Once again, this year we were voted BEST THEATRICAL GROUP by The Hudson Valley Magazine’s Reader’s Poll. If you haven’t already noticed, turn to page 25 of the August, 1997 issue of The Hudson Valley Magazine and see for yourself!
We also hope you take notice of the front of our building. Several of our hardworking volunteers were once again at work painting the front steps and installing a new hand rail which may assist individuals to gain entrance to our theatre. The Board of Governors is currently discussing a variety of capital projects, so stay tuned for more information about what may be coming down the line for the 1997-1998 season.
Don’t forget – the Board of Governors meets every third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM. If you want to become more involved, pick up the phone and call me at 463-0918. Thanks for your continued support!
Anna Marie Creighton, President
