County Players Presents
Pippin

County Players, Inc. presents the extraordinary musical Pippin as their May production. Pippin was written by Stephen Schwartz and is directed for CP by Tom Lawrence. Show dates are May 4, 5, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 2001 at 8:00 PM at the County Players Falls Theater, 2681 West Main Street in Wappingers Falls. Tickets are $15 ($12 for seniors and children under 12).

Winner of 5 Tony Awards, Pippin is a powerful show rich with expressive dance routines, large chorus numbers, great songs, as well as a cleverly written and enjoyable story line. It is a parable about a young man’s search for meaning and truth.

The show opens with Magic To Do, performed by “a troupe of players.” Under the guidance of their Leading Player (David Mossey), they set the stage to act out the life of Pippin (Jim Nurre), son of Charlemagne. In his song Corner Of The Sky, Pippin conveys that he is an extraordinary person deserving of an extraordinary life. But we learn that he’s not at all sure what that life should be. The Leading Player lures him into the inescapable conclusion of a life without direction or satisfaction: self-destruction. In the final moments, Pippin opts for true happiness.

The large and talented cast, which hales from the entire Hudson Valley, is guided under the sure hand of Tom Lawrence. Tom is a veteran director of County Players. In this show Tom wears two hats as, director and vocal director. Tom is very excited about directing Pippin and says that all of the cast members, many of whom are enjoying their first experience with County Players, are a pleasure to direct.

Pippin is choreographed for CP by Denise Wornell. Denise is thrilled to be working with CP again and will be on both sides of the footlights in this show, enjoying her County Players stage debut. “It’s a lot of hard work for everyone”, states Denise, “but it’s also been an incredible experience”.

To obtain tickets for this must see musical. Call the County Players Box Office at 298-1491.

Annual Meeting

We are very happy to host our 2001 Annual Meeting on Friday June 8, 2001 at 7:00PM. This will prove to be a momentous occasion as we will ceremoniously burn the mortgage which has been paid off. As always, we will be electing members of the Board of Governors. Nominated are Kathleen Ceng, Peter Edman, Rian Keating, and Tom Lawrence. Following the business portion of the meeting, Zsuzsa Manna will showcase her directorial skills with a presentation of Impromptu. Following the show, we will have refreshments in the lobby where you can get to know the board members. All are welcome. Please plan to attend.

From the President

Sincere congratulations to Director Rian Keating and his very talented cast and production crew of The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 for presenting a truly sensational piece of theatre.

During the last production, our Box Office experienced some complications with the computer that handles our reservations and ticketing. It was determined that the cause may have been hardware related, therefore last month the Board of Governors voted to purchase a new computer system for the Box Office. This should be installed prior to Pippin and we anticipate a smooth run for reservations and ticketing of all future shows.

Our annual CP Picnic for all those who volunteered this past season will be held on June 24 at Bowdoin Park. Invitations will be distributed in the near future.

Two new committees, The Building Safety Committee and the Volunteer Committee have been formed and are meeting on a regular basis.

During our March meeting, the Board completed the 2001-2001 season slate of shows as described within. We are very excited to have two new directors next year – Lynn Ferrell and Zsuzsa Manna.

A reminder that our annual meeting is scheduled for June 8 at 7 PM. We also plan to celebrate the fact that we recently paid off our mortgage. Please join us on this evening to witness the “torching” of the mortgage. In addition, entertainment will be provided followed by refreshments and good conversation.

Please feel free to come to the theatre and volunteer your time. I can’t say this enough – it’s good fun, and you won’t regret it!

Anna Marie Martino – President

Correction

In our last edition, we incorrectly stated that a snow machine had not been used on stage in ten years – since Barefoot in the Park. Thanks to Fred Wolinsky who correctly identified The Mousetrap as the most recent use of a snowmaker.
