NOTICE: This is a new date and time for the audition originally scheduled for January 18 at 3 PM

In 1921, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and President Warren G. Harding took a camping trip together into the Maryland woods to escape civilization. Inspired by an actual event, Camping with Henry and Tom is an exploration of friendship, politics, and leadership; a comedic and dramatic clash of two great minds and one great heart of the twentieth century.

Camping With Henry and Tom is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals, on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. concordtheatricals.com

Character Breakdown:

Casting: 4 Male Actors of various age ranges and backgrounds.

Henry Ford (Industrialist): Male; approximate age-range of 45-70; of any background
Ford is powerful, confident and control oriented. The play highlights his more controversial views, including his strong business focus and a desire to run the country like a business. He is an intense character.

Thomas Edison (Inventor): male; approximate age-range of 60-85; of any background
Edison is cerebral and wise in both science and human nature and often provides the play’s humor. He is an old friend of Ford but not necessarily an ally in his political manipulations. Edison is more grounded than Ford with an ability to see through the industrialist’s bluster.

Warren G. Harding (U.S. President): male; approximate age-range of 45-70; of any background
Harding is a troubled but basically a decent man. He is a reluctant president who views the position more as ceremonial, and he spends much of his time covering up his scandals. At the moment, he simply wants to enjoy the camping trip with his famous friends.

Colonel Edmund Starling (Head of Secret Service): male; approximate age- range of 25-45; of any background
A character who appears late in the play. Starling is the one who ultimately asserts control over the situation, reminding the President on his obligations and ending the secluded camping trip. If a Narrator for the reading is needed, Starling will also fill this role.
