The Mel Brooks Musical: Young Frankenstein
Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan
Music and Lyrics by Mel Brooks
Directed by Kevin Barnes

Auditions: Sunday February 6 (7pm) & Monday February 7 (7pm)

From the creators of the record-breaking Broadway sensation, The Producers, comes this monster new musical comedy. The comedy genius, Mel Brooks, adapts his legendarily funny film into a brilliant stage creation – Young Frankenstein!

Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”) inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced “Eye-gore”), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally), Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. “It’s alive!” he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds.

Casting: 5 Men, 3 Women for the principal roles plus an Ensemble of 12 -16 men and women (Gravediggers, Villagers, Medical Students, Passengers, Mad Scientists)

SEVEN KEYS TO BALDPATE

Sunday, February 13 (2pm)

One of the most successful plays of the early 20th century, George M. Cohan created a new style of play which baffled and delighted audiences when Seven Keys to Baldpate opened in 1913: a melodrama crossed with a farce tied up in a mystery. The play tells the story of a novelist, William Magee, who locks himself away in a snowbound hotel for 24 hours in an effort to win a bet with the hotel’s owner that he cannot write an entire novel during his short stay. The owner assures Magee that he has the only key, but Magee will discover over the course of the evening that there are several other keys, all in the possession of a collection of quirky, crazed characters involved in an increasingly bizarre scheme to steal millions.
