ELEANOR
By Mark St. Germain
Directed by Jeffery Battersby

One-woman biographical drama | CP2 Mini Festival
An absorbing, thoughtful portrait.

This one-woman show brings to life Eleanor Roosevelt, the most influential First Lady the world has ever seen. From her “Ugly Duckling” upbringing to her unorthodox marriage to Franklin, Eleanor puts her controversial life, loves and passions on the stage.

Eleanor is presented through special arrangement with TRW Plays. trwplays.com

Cast:

Narrator
Eleanor

The Narrator will be integral to setting the scene changes, providing visual cues and other information about what would normally appear in sound or via projections, and in providing information about the location in which each scene is set. Authoritative, playful, invested in Eleanor’s various challenges, an ally.

Eleanor, the eponymous center of this play, will be challenged with playing herself and with presenting the many other characters who live in her orbit. I am not looking, necessarily, for an exact replica of Eleanor Roosevelt’s voice as I am in her carriage and demeanor. Your interpretation of this is what I’d like to see. Regarding the many characters Eleanor gives voice to, I’d like differentiation with subtlety. You are welcome to prepare any voice you choose for all the players, as long as they remain human, accessible, and real.

One-person mysterious adventure | CP2 Mini Festival
An impressive presentation of lovely evidences

ABOUT THE SHOW
An eccentric Dutch librarian finds a battered travel guide in the return bin – 113 years overdue. Both captivated by the mystery and irritated by the late return, the librarian embarks on a quest to seek the borrower’s identity. But the journey leads much farther than anyone would have guessed, taking a trip around the world and centuries into the past. It’s a tale full of twists and turns…Humorous and philosophical, this one-person play is a spellbinding tour de force of dramatic storytelling at its finest.

ROLE AVAILABLE:
The Librarian (Non-specific gender, age 40-70s) An eccentric being of Dutch descent. Middle-aged, alone, a little sad and a lot resigned. While the librarian is a bureaucratic character, the actor should have strong command of continuous dialogue, with a vulnerability and desperation that is both whimsical and relatable. Comfort with dialects a plus.
